Prior Lake, Minnesota, August 8, 2016 – Today Kevin Burkart filed for and officially announced his candidacy for a seat on the Prior Lake City Council. Kevin, age 45, has been a resident of Prior Lake since 1974. He is married to Laura Burkart (Dauffenbach), also a Prior Lake native.
After graduating from Prior Lake public schools in 1989 Kevin earned a degree in accounting from St. Cloud State University. Upon graduating he was a CPA for both KPMG and Deloitte & Touche.
In 1996, Kevin founded StepStoneGroup, a local creative, marketing and digital agency. He bootstrapped the company into a multimillion dollar local employer. In 2015 he sold the company and semi retired.
Kevin is also an avid philanthropic leader in the Twin Cities and has served on numerous nonprofit and for-profit boards. Most notably, Kevin has raised nearly $500,000 for Parkinson’s disease through his world-record skydiving efforts.
Kevin wants to use his experience in business and philanthropy to bring common-sense solutions to Prior Lake City Hall. His objectives include transparency, preserving a small town feel and improving the infrastructure for downtown to thrive. He believes entrepreneurship is the most effective channel for wealth distribution; concurrently, our tax and other policies should encourage people to invest in themselves and their ideas to create new opportunities.
